Hi j moroney, welcome... I don't believe there have been any clinical studies on the combination of these two treatments.  I'm also not sure if any insurance would pay for both.  Is your Dr. recommending this?  I would ask the dr and choose one or the other, unless there is a specific reason to take these two that I haven't heard of.  Since I don't believe there have been any studies done on this, you won't be able to find much info that supports this idea of taking two different osteoporosis meds.

Good luck

I  started taking Evista 4-5 years ago when my bone density was below normal.  At first, it brought it back, but this year the dr found I am just above osteo.  So she is giving me alendronate with evista.  My arthritis dr knows this and didn't say angthing so I wondered if anyone else takes both.

Hi J, thanks so much for letting us now about this new combo treatment.  Could you let us know, if you don't mind, if your insurance covers both of these medications?  I know the retail price on Evista just went up to approximately $145.00 a month and luckily alendronate (Fosamax) is available in generic.  Of course, if you have good insurance, you wouldn't have to pay retail on the Evista, but I'm curious how they handle the payment for both.  Hopefully others with experience, will post about it.

If you do take both of these, discuss limiting the alendronate to 5 years, recently recommended by the FDA and the ASBMR (Amer Society of Bone and Mineral Research) on spontaneous femur fractures.

Good luck with this and I hope you do well!

Right now my insurance is paying for both.  I'll let you know if I have trouble. Thanks for the help.
