Is there ever going to be a med that wont poisen you.
Hi Bony, the last we spoke you were considering Miacalcin, Evista or HRT. Did the Dr recommend any of those for you? You'd mentioned that you got a list of meds from your pharmacist so I thought you were looking into one of those listed above. If for some reason you can't take these either, then the Fosteum I mentioned in the other post may be something to consider since it's not a drug.
It sounds like your problems stem from bisphosphonates (boniva, actonel, fosamax or reclast) so considering something other than those may be the solution. The Miacalcin, Evista and HRT are not bisphosphonates and neither is Fosteum.
One of our members is using Strontium Citrate with great success so hopefully she'll be able to fill you in on it when she has time. In the meantime read about Fosteum with the link I gave you and ask your Dr. about that. The only other treatment left that we haven't discussed is a drug that hasn't rec'd full FDA approval yet called Denosumab. It's not a bisphosphonate either and comes in a twice yearly injection. If the FDA approves it around Oct/Nov maybe you could ask your Dr. about this.
Good luck with all the information you have to read and I hope you find something in all the meds we've discussed that will help YOU and not cause side effects.

Hi Susi, welcome and thanks for your question. Fosteum ingredients are: zinc, D3 and genistein (isolated from soy). Since it has genistein they list the effects of that which can be somewhat similar to HRT even though that isn't in it. Genistein is a isoflavone isolated from soy and some isoflavones act like a phytoestrogen (hormone from plants) in mammals.
If you are allergic to soy you wouldn't be able to take this. Did you read the article on Fosteum? It should explain the connection between isoflavones, soy, and phytoestrogens. Here's the link on the article that also has the clinical trial done on it. Read through the comments since the first study listed was moved and the new URL is in the last comment.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
HI Bony Maroni..I don't know if you're interested in a more natural alternative, but
I've been taking strontium citrate for almost 3 years and feel its a safe and effective way treat osteo along with plenty of walking, weight training, supplements and healthy diet. Strontium is a natural supplement that can be purchased online or at some stores. I've had no side effects at all, although some taking it have. Everyone has different body chemistry and not all things are right for everyone. If you mention it to your dr. as an option to the now available drugs he/she may not be familiar with it since it's not FDA approved for the treatment of osteo. If your dr. does know about it they can advise you.
There is plenty of information about it available online, but this link (click on the blue line) will give you a good idea of what it is and what it does. You can also do your own reseach and then decide for yourself if its the right path to take. If you have more question please ask and i'll try to answer them for you. One more thought...after 9 months of use i had a DEXA that did show improvements in both hip and lumbar spine t-scores. I had a DEXA in jne and had even more improvements. take care...phyllis

is there a hormone component in fosteum. it seems like some of the side effects remind me of hrt. still thinking natural hormones might be a way to go. wonder if when you go off there is a major drop in calcium.
