I have Multiple Myeloma and have taken Aredia and Zometa - what danger do I face

Topics:Aredia and Zometa

I have Multiple Myeloma and have taken Zometa and Aredia - after a FDA article about bone hardeners - I got scared and told my doctor I wouldn't take it until I found out more answers - he wasn't aware that there was any problems but was furious when I showed him the article.  I have had acute pelvic pain and have gotten worse in the last few years.   I also had some teeth removed but that turned out okay other than the scare I had.   I keep hearing about some of the ones that say if you can't sit or stand for 30 minutes - it is a problem.  I cannot sit for 30 minutes but stand okay.  Really getting concerned about this and hope the public should be more aware as not everyone has a computer.

Thanks for the question. You will have to go back to your doctor's office to get the complete answer. Only your doctor can tell you what certain medications might do to your body. Fatigue, fever and flu-like symptoms are mild potential side-effects. On the other end of the spectrum, this post highlights "the possibility of severe and sometimes incapacitating bone, joint, and/or muscle (musculoskeletal) pain". You might also find this overview of those two drugs from the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation helpful. But remember that this can not take the place of advice from your doctor.
