Q: Can Forteo help an 83yr old woman recover quicker from Pelvis fracture?

My mother-in-law is very prone to trip and falls.

She is now 83 and fell last year and  fractured her pelvis. The Dr's say there is nothing they can do.  So she uses a walker now and has no confidence in walking without it.

Now she is afraid to go outside on her normal daily walks etc.  She does take medication for high blood pressure - and has for the 20years I've known her.  The problem is she's not picking up her feet and tripping or stubbing her toe and over she goes - and her responses are so slow now she simply falls like a log.  Before she would atleast put her hands down and sprain a wrist etc.

Anyhow, I want her to have a great QUALITY of life - especially now that she is 83 --

Is this drug available in canada?

Hi MKS:  Yes Forteo is available in Canada.  I don't know where you live, but there is a clinical trial on Forteo and pelvic fractures taking place at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Here's an article on the above clinical trial and Forteo's use in non-healing fractures.

If you could get your mother-in-law to a physical therapist, they could help with the shuffling problem when she walks.  If she doesn't pick up her feet she will continue to fall so I hope you can find some help.

Good luck...
