Q: Does anyone know if you can take Forteo and Evista together? I have gotten conflicting advice.

I have been taking Forteo for just over a year; results are flat (no gain, no loss). When my mother developed breast cancer, my breast doctors told me to add Evista. My internist (who prescribed the Forteo) wasn't in favor of it, but didn't say "don't." My gynecologist said go ahead and prescribed it. So I have been taking both for abou 6 weeks. Today, my internist called to say definitely don't take both together. This was via a phone message. So until I can talk directly with all of these doctors, does anyone else have an info?

Thanks, Linda C. 11/10/09

Hi ichapter, welcome and thanks for your question.  Boy this is a tough question.  Hopefully you can find out from your Dr. since we wouldn't know this nor would we be able to give you advice on it.

When I took Forteo that's all I took, but I did well on it and saw improvements right away.  Combining Forteo with other meds has been a hotly debated topic and I don't know what the current recomendation is.

I hope you can find out and maybe you could call a specialist or the drug company and see what they say.  A specialist would be either a Rheumatologist, Endocrinologist or Mineral metabolism Dr.

Good luck...

Hi here's some additional info for you on this topic.  The study below says that the combination of Forteo and Evista increased BMD after 6 months.  Please read the article and ask your Dr. about it.
