Q: Time table for vertebroplasty

I talked to my doctor today and am going to have an MRI on the 24th to see if the doctor can do the vertebroplasty.  She told me the time limit is 6 months.  This happened the end of Nov so I had to make a decision now.  I thought it would just heal and I would be back to normal I didn't realize how serious osteoporosis is.  I know now.  I thought the pain which is a 3 would leave and not just stay and stay.  So they do the MRI to see if my bone is strong enough.  If they can do it would April be to long of a time frame.  I can't have a kyphoplasty because there is no doctors that do it in my insurance group which is Kaiser.  Would it be a waste of my time I am still a little confussed so please be patient with me.  Also learning how to use this site.

Hi Sandra:  I think it's a good idea to have the MRI to evaluate for this procedure.  It sounds like you are still within the 6 month time frame even if you have to wait till April.  There's also another possibility, if the MRI shows that this procedure is feasible, can the surgery be moved up?

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, but this is just another reason to see if you can't have this done.  There are some risks, but like anything in life we have to accept that and do whatever we can to make it a successful fracture repair.

Vertebroplasties can be done on older fractures, where kyphoplasty are generally recommended for newer/fresh ones.
