Rash after taking Boniva
Within a week of taking my first dose of Boniva (monthly) I broke out in a rash all over my hands and forearms. The itching was terrible and I didn't link the problem to this new medication. The rash subsided right before my second dose, which broke out within a few days after taking it, although this time is was worse and I even had the rash on my face. While searching on the internet...I stumbled on a possible cause - Boniva. I called my GYN and asked him what he thought about this and he told me that he had never had a patient experience a rash as a side effect of Boniva. My response...well you have one now! He told me to take another dose and give him a call if I get another rash. Yeah right. I've never taken another dose and I've never gotten the rash again, so I'm assuming I was correct. I'm sure there are others out there who have had this same problem and I wondering if they continued taking Boniva...did the side effect ever go away? And, if you stopped taking Boniva..what are you doing to combat osteoporosis? Thanks for any responses.
Hi syllyKitty: A rash after taking any med is not a good sign, but don't panic it could be something that your body can't handle. I'm not a doc, but these types of reactions can be a red flag that you *might* be allergic to it.
Of course there are other things that could cause this, but since it went away after stopping it I'm not completely sure. Do you have any swelling with the rash?
Make sure you have your Dr check for Boniva reactions and other things that could cause this.
Good luck finding out what's going on and I hope you get a resolution to it asap! You should never ignore these types of reactions, and confirm that with your doc.

My brother-in-law whose 86 was first given Boniva (at 86!) He became ill, flu-like symptoms, terrible rash all over hands and arms- still. Stopped taking - still has rash - photos recorded.
I still have stomach upset, muscle aches mostly in arms, weakened lower back, lost 15 lbs and can't gain it back. Had flu-like symptoms for 1.5 mos. last summer. Began taking Boniva Feb 2008 -became nauseous, kept taking till July 2008 - stopped due to extreme nausea, stomach upset, no appetite, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, etc.

I have severe joint ,muscle, rib, leg and arm pain, feverish feeling and an itchy rash after taking first dose of Boniva, once monthly pill, last week...I have never suffered with any pain like it in my entire life, and I have had fibromyalgia for years, and have been able to deal with it UNTIL NOW!!! I could barely get out of bed Saturday morning...my spine and hips just ached, and it hurt my ribs to breathe!!! How can a product like this be approved by the FDA and be allowed to be ingested by the human body. I read that this stuff originally was an acid that was being used to clean boiler pipes, and it was discovered that calcium was bonding to the molecules, and someone got the hair brained idea to find a way to make a product like this out of it!!!...It said it is actually a toxin.I feel more inclined to find ways to doctor myself, as I have no faith in pharmaceutical companies at all anymore...I feel they use us all as cheap guinne pigs, while they fill their pockets with gold in the process!!!
