Hi J. Gruchala, welcome.  This is a question you need to ask your Dr.  Most of the osteoporosis drugs, bisphosphonates mainly, need to be taken by someone who doesn't have kidney issues.  Since you've had surgery it's best to discuss this with your surgeon or primary care and ask if transplant patients need to be cautious with these meds.  Some of the bisphosphonates require a creatinine clearance test with a resulting score of <35 mL/min before you can proceed. Here is a link from the FDA on recent kidney warnings with bisphosphonates (Actonel, Fosamax, Boniva and Reclast).

Please discuss this with your Dr. so you know what the best choice is.  There are some meds like Evista, miacalcin, and hormone replacement that don't have the warning on kidney status, but I would check this out anyway with your surgeon.

Good luck!
