Hi Pat, welcome back. Unfortunately there is no one medication that is considered best to treat osteoporosis. Since we all react very differently to all of them, it would be impossible to say that one is better than the other because we wouldn't know how we'll do on it.
Did your Dr. say you have hypercalcemia? I had a similar problem with slightly elevated Ca, but I continued the Forteo. I'm certainly not telling you to do that, this needs to be your decision, but I just wanted to mention that some people do experience slight elevations of Ca and continue by decreasing their calcium intake. When I stopped taking Forteo my Ca level went back to normal. At my lab, normal Ca is anything between 8.5 and 10.5, so that's why I asked if your score was considered hypercalcemia; it wasn't until my Ca went above 10.5 and stayed there for many tests did the Dr. conclude that it was hypercalcemia. Some labs have different reference ranges and I don't know what your labs scores are.
I would discuss this with your Dr. and see what both of you think is best. If you'd like to read more on hypercalcemia and Forteo read the Cleveland Clinic pdf on it and how they recitified this problem (see page 4) on Calcium levels and their recommendations for treatment.
Good luck finding something to take.
