Don't let RA limit your routineLearn more now about a treatment that may help
Friday, May 30, 2008 Judy asks

Q: Which type of doctor should I see for my osteoporosis. My primary care doctor does not seem to be

knowledgeable.  Also, my primary care doctor sent me to physical therapy for sciatica, although he knew I had osteoporosis. The physical therapist put me on mechanical traction which hurt, bothered me a lot and made me weak. Do you have any information that someone with osteoporosis should not have mechanical traction?

Hello, thank you for sharing your question! If you are not satisfied with the care you are getting for your osteoporosis from your primary care physician, consulting a specialist may be a good idea. Possible options would include an endocrinologist, rheumatologist, orthopedist (especially if you have already had a fracture) or even a geriatrician.  For the sciatinc nerve problems, the best specialist to consult would be a neurologist. Good luck with both these issues and do keep us posted on your progress!
