Hi Rosie, welcome... Sorry to hear you've progressed to osteoporosis, that is always discouraging even when you do all you need to with diet, exercise, vitamins and meds.
Fosamax is a very similar medication to Reclast with many of the same side effects. All bisphosphonates have the ability to cause bone pain in some, but it's really difficult to say whether or not this will happen again with the jaw pain. Also, even though the once every 6 month medication you are referring to is Prolia, it also has some of the similar side effects as well.
You could discuss this with your Dr. or Dentist and see what they say, but I suspect they'll say the same thing about the similarities in side effects or may not be aware of it, unfortunately.
Here's an article you can read about Prolia (every 6 months) and Reclast's prescribing info from Novartis and see what YOU think. Be sure to do as much reading as you can to make an informed decision on this.
Good luck, and be sure to discuss Reclast in particular since the side effects on this drug can last longer than the weekly, bi-monthly and monthly meds from this same class of drug.
