COPD, BARETTS DISEASE AND BONIVA OR FOSIMAX

I AM 85 YR. MALE AND HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH OSTEOPOROSIS. I CONTRACTED COPD FROM VALLEY FEVER(COCCIDIOMYCOSIS) 6 YRS AGO. I AM NOW ON OXYGEN ALL NIGHT AND DURING THE DAY AS I NEED IT. RECENTLY MY PULMONOLOGIST SAID I SHOULD BE ON EITHER FOSAMAX OR BONIVA. I HAVE PROBLEMS ENOUGH WITH OUT MORE. IN MY CASE WHAT ARE PROBLEMS THAT CAN OCCUR IF I TAKE EITHER BONIVA OR FOSAMAX OR SIMILAR DRUGS. GEORGE R, NELSON MARDINEL@AOL.COM

Thanks for your question. You should as your doctor what sort of side effects you may experience, as only he or she fully understands your medical situation. Common side effects for Boniva can be found here and include bone, joint or muscle pain, jaw pain and stomach or esophagus irrigation. Fosamax's side effects my be found here and are very similar to Boniva's. However, these are both partial lists. You should always check with your doctor about any questions you have about prescribed medications.
