Q: Dr wants me on forteo. Should I consider this treatment?

I had breast cancer with radiation and chemo. I am on arimidix and have been on boniva for two years. My bone density scan did not show any improvement.  The doctor wants me on Forteo. I am concerned of the side effects( bone cancer). Should I consider this treatment or stay on Boniva(IV push)?

Hi Cher, welcome and thanks for your question.  I understand your reluctance about Forteo, and would discuss this with your Dr. so he or she can give some advice.

I took Forteo and did really well, but we all react differently to it so I would do some reading on it and ask as many questions about it before you decide what to do.

If you've had radiation to the bone, you shouldn't take Forteo, but I don't know if this applies to you.  Here's an article on Forteo, from the Cleveland Clinic, that should answer all your questions.  Be sure to express your concerns about the cancer risk with your Dr.

Good luck and if you have any other questions just ask.
