Q: Does Actenel or Fosamax negatively effect cholesterol?

I have been on Fossamax since 2000. Since 2001 my HDL has been in a decline and from 2004 my LDL has been rising. Total cholesterol has been normal though. Have there been any issue with rising LDL and a lowering of HDL when on Fosamax or Actenel?I walk on a treadmill at least 4x's a week for 40 minutes with a HR of 122-134 depending on the day. I walk at least 3 miles/event. I am 6'1" and weigh 185 pounds and in my mid 50's.

Cholesterol has been normal my entire life.

Hi Sherman, welcome and thanks for your question.  I can't find any mention of elevated LDL.  It's good though that your total cholesterol is normal.  I would talk to your Dr. about this since I've never heard anything about this issue.  Good job with the exercise and keep that up that will help tremendously.

Good luck finding out about this and maybe review your diet to see if you are eating anything that might affect this reading-ok?  Post again if you need something else.
