Hi marion, welcome and thanks for your question. Actonel can cause joint pain, but I've never heard of it causing joint deterioraction. Here's an article from John Hospkins below, that claims these drugs can actually help with arthritis and joint degeneration. Most of us get some form of arthritis as we age, so it's not unusual to see this as we get older. Ask your Dr. about this and see what he or she thinks. Also read the study done at John Hopkins on this to see if it helps any. Good luck...
