Q: Soy products for someone who has history of breast cancer

I just read an article about the benefit of eating soy products for post-menopausal women.  I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, have tried various medications but they seem to lose their effectiveness (I am currently taking Boniva).  I have a history of breast cancer and have been told that I should stay away from soy products.  Any thoughts about this?

Hi Bones, welcome and thanks for your question.  Unfortunately I don't know anything about soy and BC, so you might want to ask your question at our Breast Cancer Site and I'm sure they'll help you.  The patient experts there are very informed and could elaborate on this from their personal experiences.

Since your Dr. has already said to stay away from soy you should follow those directions, since your Dr. knows the most about this given you medical history.  It's possible that soy could help bone loss but might be detrimental for those with BC; just my opinion.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.Smile
