Q: T-score varies so much between hip & vertebrae?

My T-score in hip went from -1.6 to -1.7 & in lumbar vertebrae it went from -1.3 to -2.8. Is that probable that one area would stay the same and the other would progress so much? The 2 dexascans were 5 years apart, postmenopausal. Should I get another scan to confirm the results or is this common?

Hi Mshuebs, welcome...  This difference between hip and spine scores is not that unusual.  If you want to read more about this phenomenom see this link from the Univ of WA on discordance between hip and spine scores.

If your insurance will pay for a repeat DXA you could ask for it to be sure, but most insurance co's only pay for this test every year or two, check to see what your insurance co does.

Good luck...
