Hi Karen:  I'm sorry to hear your mom is having so much trouble.  Since your mom still continues to have pain even though she doesn't have a fracture, then something else is causing the pain.  Since I'm not a Dr. I can't say if a CT scan would be recommended, but it can give you more information about what the possible cause is for her pain since CT scans look at more things within the body.   Check her insurance and see if it covers CT scans and if the Dr would order it.  If you are worried that she has a fracture and the x-ray didn't show it, then having a CT scan *may* be an option.  Usually frax's show up on x-rays, but there are always exceptions to that.   I understand your reluctance with Boniva, but I think finding out about the cause of the pain should be established first.  If she wants to take Boniva, she can but you need a better diagnosis first, in addition to the osteoporosis.     Good Luck
