I have been on Forteo for two plus years. Should I stop, regardless of doctors advice?

Hi Veronica,

 

Thank you for your question. There is not a two year limitation on taking Forteo. There have been no studies with Forteo that lasted longer than two years, so the manufacturer cannot say for sure that the medication is effective for longer than two years. For the same reason, the manufacturer has to report that it's not recommended for use beyond two years. This is something that you should discuss with your doctor. If he (or she) feels that it's in your best interest to continue the Forteo, there is no reason why you shouldn't. There is no data published that says it's harmful after two years, there simply is no data beyond two years.
