Q: I was allergic to fosamax and had a cardiac reaction(rt. bundle branch block) to miacalcin-reclast?

After one month on fosamax I had an allergic reaction (confirmed by a skin bx)

One inhalation of miacalcin sent me to the ER. I was diagnosed with a brand new

right bundle branch block.  I have been on Actonel  with no adverse reactions.

My osteoporosis is worse and my doctor wants to go on Reclast.  Is Reclast

the same chemical componect as Fosamax and Miacalcin?  Isof there any chance

of my having an allergic or cardiac reaction?

Hi Mary, thanks for your question.  Fosamax and Miacalcin are 2 totally different chemical compounds.  I would check with your cardio about Reclast to see if there is a reason to worry about cardiac problems.  When Fosamax first came out the FDA put out a warning on Reclast for atrial fibrillation, then several months later changed their opinion on how it reacts with the heart.  Below is the updated link from the FDA on this and see if you think this applies to you.  Afib (erradic heart beat, etc) is different than rt. bundle branch block, but to be sure about this please discuss it with your Dr.

Good luck finding out if this drug would cause any heart problems.  If you have any other questions please post again.

Hi Mary, I need to make a correction on the above answer.  I meant to say when "Reclast first came out..."  I accidentally mixed up Fosamax with Reclast in the sentence on the FDA warning for atrial fibrillation.  Sorry about that!
