Q: After forteo how long must a patient with to start fosamax?

how long after being treated with forteo can a patient go on fosamax

Hi Sharon, welcome and thanks for your question.  Normally you don't wait to start a new treatment after Forteo.  Check with you Dr to see if he or she agrees.  I started Evista the day after I finished Forteo.

Hi Sharon,

My doctor said that I should start on a bisphosphonate right after finishing Forteo but that I had up to 6 months before loosing bone density. Since I was looking for other alternatives to bisphosphonates I waited and close to 6-7 months after stopping Forteo the bone density I gained was already lost. I figured that some new medication would come on the market but it really didn't so I'm back on Forteo again.
