Does Actonel cause severe vomiting and diarreah?

I have taken the monthly dose of Actonel for two months. Each time, within five days of taking the drug, I have experienced severe vomiting and diarreah lasting for several days. My digestive system does not return to normal for a couple of weeks. The first month I thought I had contracted an intestinal virus, but now I think it is most likely a reaction to the Actonel. Would Reclast cause the same problems since it is in the same drug family?

Hi Jean:  I took Actonel but I didn't have any gi probs from it.  It's not unusual to have stomach and esophagus complaints with this med.  Reclast is a similiar med (bisophosphonate) but is administered through an iv, so it doesn't go through your intestinal tract therefore eliviating the most of all of the gi problems caused by bisphosphonates.  Below is an easy to understand study on Reclast (Zoledronic Acid) if you would like to read it.
