Hi Jean:  I took Actonel but I didn't have any gi probs from it.  It's not unusual to have stomach and esophagus complaints with this med.  Reclast is a similiar med (bisophosphonate) but is administered through an iv, so it doesn't go through your intestinal tract therefore eliviating the most of all of the gi problems caused by bisphosphonates.  Below is an easy to understand study on Reclast (Zoledronic Acid) if you would like to read it.   http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/356/18/1809
