Hi peacegrace...  Both of these medications can cause the pain you mentioned, so you need to decide what to do with the help of your Dr. and if there is something else that could help that doesn't have these side effects.

No one can decide for you when you have these issues.  I took Lipitor and had a similar reaction but when I switched to a different cholesterol med the problem went away.  You may find that some of the Statins cause this problem and some may not, it just depends on how your body reacts to them, and we are all different in that respect.

If you choose to discontinued the cholesterol med, be sure you have a good back up plan for a diet that will lower your cholesterol.  I can't answer the question about Actonel, but you could look into the drug holiday and see if that is an option for you given your medical history and how you are doing now with your bone loss. Have you been taking it a long time?

Some people choose to discontinue a med for 6 months and see how they feel and if the pain actually goes away.  If you and your Dr. feel this is an option, at least you'll find out if the source of pain is coming from the meds if the pain does subside after you've stop taking it for some time.

Don't forget to check for other possible causes of this pain, so you don't unnessecarily overlook something else that could be the culprit.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.  Thanks for joining us...
