Q: Is there something to counteract bad reaction to reclast injection?

My mother took the injection and still has severe nausea and vomiting a month later. The doctor says there is nothing she can do, that once it's in it's in.The injection lasts a year. Does this mean she will be sick for a year? She is on nausea meds but is still sick.

Hi Amy, welcome and thanks for your question.  I'm so sorry your mother is having such a difficult time.  There isn't anything you can take to counteract the Reclast other than meds that are used for nausea or vomitting, like you mentioned.  I can't say how long the side effects will last, but I surely hope it's not a whole year.

The manufacturer says that these effects usually last a week or two so since this has been going on longer than that, you may want to consider checking for some other cause.  I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear but there could be some other medical issue involved that could be overlooked.  This could be from the drug but it's also possible that it isn't, so just make sure you have every possibility checked by her Dr. you would hate to assume it's the drug and not look for another problem that could be treated.

I would check with her Dr. and ask what other possible explanations there could be, test for them if they can come up with some ideas, and hope that the symptoms subside soon.

Good luck, and I wish her the best and hope for a fast resolution to this.
