Q: I'm 52 and just found out that my t-score is -3.1.

What does that mean? Is there any treatment that will build my bones back up? I'm 4'11" and weigh 100 lbs.Thank you,Robin

Hi Robin, welcome... Below is the World Health Organizations definitions on t and z scores.

Normal bone:  Any score above -1.0

Osteopenia:  Any score between -1.0 and -2.5

Osteoporosis:  Any score below -2.5

Since your score is low, I would have the doctor check for any secondary causes of osteoporosis and any medications that cause osteoporosis.

There are some blood and urine tests you can have as well that will possibly point to other medical problems which would be treated differently than osteoporosis, and once treated help with your bone loss.

Good luck and I hope you find out more about your diagnosis.
