Don't let RA limit your routineLearn more now about a treatment that may help

Q: If I couldn't tolerate Fosmas and Actonel, what are my chances/risks with Boniva

Fosamax and Actonel both caused severe heartburn and reflux symptoms as well as nausea and general stomach and chest pain.  I have read some of the terrible reviews from patients on Boniva and want to be sure before I make the change.

I'm sorry to hear about your problematic side effects! As you know, Boniva is in the same class of drugs you mentioned, and the oral formulation could cause the same problems. However, the injected version of Boniva would not cause gastrointestinal side effects like the one you mentioned, although it is still linked in some patients to severe bone pain. Another bisphosphonate now on the market for osteoporosis, Reclast, is given by yearly infusion and also devoid of heartburn-type side effects (but again, some patients to suffer the bone pain). Good luck as you discuss this issue with your doctor!
