Hi Bonna,   Thank you for your question. As you mentioned, Fosamax is difficult for the body to absorb. The active ingredient just isn't absorbed well by the body. The generic is going to have the same precautions associated with it (Take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach - Drink with a full glass of water - Don't lie down for 30 minutes afterwards). That being said, the FDA has strict guidelines that the manufacturer must meet to prove that the generic is equivalent to the brand name formulation. The main difference between brand and generic medications is the inactive ingredients that are used.
