Q: Is depression a side effect of Forteo?

My mother has been taking Forteo for about 4 months.  During this time, she has started to experience symptoms of depression.  She has no history of depression.  She is 80 years old.  Is this a reported side effect and if so, what are options.  She is at high risk for bone fracture and needs to do something, but previous treatment with Fosamax was not successfu.

Hello,

Per the drug manufacturer's patient information sheet on Forteo, depression IS listed under "Possible side effects of Forteo," with the advisement that a person taking this drug should "seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur."

I have not heard of any depression taking Forteo.  I know that I was a little depressed

knowing that I had to take Forteo, but once I did the research realized that this was

a good alternative to osteoporosis.

I hope this helps.  I am new to the blog, but have been very uplifted with the response from this blg.
