I have trouble taking daily calcium tablets more than once a day. My system becomes constipated and I do not feel right. I have osteopedia and fear moving into full osteoporosis. Any suggestions?

Hi momom3, welcome and thanks for your question. Are you taking magnesium with the calcium? Magnesium should help to lessen the constipation. You could also try liquid calcium to see if that breaks down easier in your system. There's also chewable available and some try either of these when they have trouble with the tablets, constipation, or non absorption problems.
You can also try getting your calcium from food. Calcium from food rarely causes constipation. Check out some of our calcium rich recipes on the question of the week and look up calcium content in foods at the link provided in that discussion to see if this would help. You can also calculate your totals at the link mentioned from the National Institute of Health.
Good luck and if you have another question just post again...

Thank you for your suggestions. I will check to see if my calcium has magnesium added. I found the chewables are easier to take than the tablets. I do try to eat a calcium rich diet as well. I hope this question helps others.
