Q: men and reclasp ?

I am a 47 year old man living with severe steroid induced osteoperosis.I have had 9 fractures since 1996 with an original bone density of almost negative three. i lost three inches in height and have lost all feeling below the waist.i spent 5 years in a wheelchair and and finally had an infusion pump put in.it helprd my spacticity and pain levels and was able to learn to walk again.i continue to have no feeling and no reflexes below the waist as well.wether this is all related to the nerve damage from the fractures or not is still under investigation.if anyone else has had similar issues and could help shed lite on things i could ask my doc it would be great.I have tried most of the osteoperosis drugs available to me but have heard about the reclasp.i was wondering if there has been any studies with men and if so is it safe for men to use.

Hi Paul, welcome to the community.  I'm so sorry you are going through so many challenges.  Yes, Reclast is approved for men.  Here's a news article from HealthCentral annoucing the FDA approval for men.   You could check this press release from Novartis to see about any studies done on men.

Good luck...

Hi Paul:  I found an article on steriod-induced osteoporosis in men and women who were started on Reclast.  The primary end-point of the study was to compare the effectiveness of Reclast versus Actonel (Risedronate), but the outcome should answer your question about its use and benefits for men.

Here's the article from Reuters.  Good luck, and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
