Q: What do you know about reclast? My doctor is suggesting I have reclast IV

My doctor is recommending reclast infusion.  I am 53 years old and recently diagnosed with osteoporosis.  My main concern is about side effects and what kind of bone I will build if I take reclast and any short and long-term side effects.

Hi Larber, welcome and thanks for your question.  Here's an article with links to Novartis' web site that should help.  Read the clinical trial on this and all the side effects to see what *you* think.  We don't all experience these side effects but some do, so you need to inform yourself the best you can before you make a decision.  If you want to talk to some who are doing very well on this, just let me know.

Good luck deciding what to do, but take your time educating yourself, waiting to take this will not hurt anything as long as the time spent is done learning as much as you can.

If you have any other questions just ask again.

My mom is in her 60's. She took it and a month later is still vomiting. She had flu like symptoms first 2 weeks. Her doctor says there is nothing that can be done.

Mom had Reclast IV and had to go to ER two days later with severe side effects. 102 temp, couldn't move arms or legs and lost control of bladder in the ER three times. She was fine before the Reclast. On oxygen and fluids.  In hosp. for 4 days and went home, needed visiting nurse and home care.  Five weeks later she is back in the hospital.  Again, she can't walk.  She has gained weight but doesn't want to eat and is weak. Doctor didnt want to admit her, said to give her some antibotics and go back home. We insisted she stay and they are doing blood work on her.

Reclast is some bad stuff.
