Hi Joy, welcome...Is the Doctor saying you can't go back on Forteo, or is it your insurance company? This makes a big difference which it is. People who didn't finish their 2 years on Forteo, have gone back on it to finish out the 24 months, but it would depend on what your insurance company says about covering it. If they covered it once, I don't see why they wouldn't again. You do have the right to appeal this if you want to do this. If your Dr. is saying you can't take it, then I would explain there is no reason why you can finish out your 24 months since you haven't already. Some patients take it for a year and then save the 12 months for a later date, or if they should need it for fracture repair assistance or something else Forteo is used for to help with bone growth and healing. Other patients are able to do this, so I would mention this to whoever is saying otherwise.
Good luck and let us know what you find out-OK?

Hi, and thanks for the response. I have been told by the doctors here in NC that I can't take it again. I was told originally that I would take it for 24 months and then stop for a few years and then take Boniva or one of the other pills. Since I have stomach problems the doctor in PA told me he would put me back on it for another 6-9 months rather then the pills. It isn't that my insurance won't pay for it, it is just the doctors stating that. I can not figure it out and have discussed it with them and they basically said NO to it. Upsets me as it did help me so much in about 9 months time.
The doctor I see now is suggesting I use Prolia and I am not too sure about that one yet. The AMGEN company called me to tell my my insurance didn't cover it. I checked on line and also called my company. The insurance company told me that they did cover it. I am so up in the air about it all. I have health issues and dread adding to them in the near future.
I will keep you updated.
