Hi I am 26 and have just been given the following DEXA scan results:
- Spine -3.6
- Hips -0.8
- Legs -1.2
I am finding it difficult to get a doctor to say wether I have osteoporosis or osteopenia due to my age.
I have been prescribed calcium and Vitamin D supplements but no other treatment. Is this the correct treatment?
For 10 years i have been taking a Depo Provera contraception injections and I suffered a compression/wedge fracture and 2 other simple fractures in the T12 vertabrae of my spine my spine in January after I slipped on some ice. I know Depo reduces your hormone levels so could this be the reason for the Dexa results and will I be able to reverse these results by using different contraception.
Many thanks
Jennie

Hi again, I can't believe I forgot to mention all your fractures-shame on me!!
I know how tough that is, and the pain process and hard rehab that ensues afterwards, so I wish you all the luck in your recovery and hope you are well on your way to being pain free or close to it and of course healed. I hope you don't have any more also! Please try and find a bone and mineral metabolism doctor, they should be able to shed light on this and help immensely.
Take Care...
