Q: Pam, I spoke to Lily and they are not aware of a cold pack for the car.

I believe you can plug it into the lighter and it will keep the medicine colder more than ten hours. If you know of other information please let me know. Thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie, I just looked for a cooler like I mentioned and they are on several commercial sites.  Just Google "Medication travel coolers."  This query should display quite a few from different companies.  There are several different types, but most come with a 12 volt rechargeable refrigeration unit and some other types as well.

I hope you can join us at our Question of the Week on Forteo here!!

Good luck,

Pam

Jackie -  I talked to Lily and they sent me a travel pack with refrigerated gel packs to keep medicine at safe temperature for up to 3 hours or freeze the gel pack and will keep medicine safe for up to 10 hours.  I think it is called the Forteo starter kit also comes with the Forteo storage case and CD.  Hope this helps.  Sandra

Thank you Sandra for answering my message. I do have a cold pack that came with Forteo. I used it when I went to Ma. It was a six hour ride on the train and it keep the Forteo cold. That was great. Thanks again.

I got the starter kit with the gel cold packs but these didn't seem to work very good for me. I never knew if the gel was cool enough and it didn't seem to last that long.

So when traveling I switched to leaving the pen in the original box and put ice packs in a cooler on either side of the pen box and that seems to keep the pen cool and will last 24 hours if using the medical ice packs. The pharmacy sends me my pens in a cooler with the ice packs so when I travel I just pack my pen the same way. I was searching the web and found a small refrigerator that plugs into the car cigarette lighter but these were sort of expensive. Ice in a cooler works as long as you keep the pen in the box so it's not directly on the pen.

Thanks for the information about the cooler. I think I might go with this when traveling. Hopefully the hotels have a freezer so I can put the packs in at night.

Thanks, Jackie
