Hi there, thanks so much for your excellent question! A DXA scan is covered by Medicare once every two years for women 65 and over. However, if you have osteopenia, your doctor may be able to request coverage for a yearly scan -- if you are taking prescription medication for your condition, to monitor progress; and if you are not, to observe if your condition has worsened and may require treatment. (More often is generally not recommended because bone changes are usually somewhat gradual.) Best of luck to you and take care!
