Hi sara, welcome and thanks for the question.  According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, running is a good weight bearing and strength training exercise if you *don't* have osteoporosis.  I personally wouldn't give up an exercise unless my Dr. advised me to.  I don't know how low your t-score are or if you've had a fracture, but the impact of running is usually the reason why people with osteoporosis are told that running could cause some problems with your joints or a possible fracture.  Here's the link from the NOF that explains.

Talk to your Dr. and see what he or she says.  Walking is considered a good wb exercise without the impact on the joints, so I don't know if you'd be interested in that instead or if you need to stop running or not.

Good luck finding out about this and let us know what you hear about this.

Hi Sara, I ran across some information on running that may be of interest to you.  In this new study the authors claim that running may build stronger bones.  Here's the link to it so you can read it.  Talk to your Dr. about both theories on running and see what he or she thinks about this type of exercise with osteoporosis.

Good luck...
