Q: Unlisted Forteo side effect. Anyone had this?

I started my 2nd Forteo pin yesterday. I take 1500mg Calcium with 400iu Vit. D everyday, plus a prescription of Vitamin D 1.25 mg once a week. I also take Omega 3 supplements and I am on Vivelle dot (hormone patch). I am 52. I have pain in my lower back - osteoarthritis for which I take Relafen.

My problem: Since taking the shots, I started having weird pains. I have intermittent pain in various parts of my body. I might have a sharp pain in my foot, then another one in my arm, then one in my side, then one in leg, then in my back, etc... You see where I'm going with this. Sometime the pain is light, but some times it really hurts and I have to stop what I'm doing for a few seconds for it to pass. Not all the time either. Right now I'm fine, but it could start any second.

Has anyone else had these problems? Is it a side effect of Forteo?

I've been on Forteo for 11 months and for the last 5 or 6 I've been feeling pains like the ones you describe.  The worst have been in my knees, for which I saw an orthopedist and, at his recommendation, a physical therapist.  It's hard to know to what extent the PT has helped.  The pain is better in general, but as you say, it can be unpredictable.  I'm having a bone density test this week and it will be interesting to see if there's been any improvement since last year.

I have been on the forteo pin for almost 9 months.  I also take Vd D and calcium.  After about two months I was taken off the shot for 2 weeks, my bones were hurting pretty bad. When I went back on them, it was not as bad, but the last few weeks have been terrible, and today I can barely function because of the pain.  I go to my doctor tomorrow and I am going to tell him I want another 2 week break.  I called Lilly (the mfg) before I stopped the first time and they said they didn't have reports of the pain being too bad.  The other problem I am having is weight gain, I have gained 12 lbs and it just won't come off.  I am not exercising because of the pain that goes with it.  I hope to have another scan in a few months, if the results are not promising, I think I will discontinue taken the shots.  My legs are brusied where I inject them and the stomach area is hard for me to do.  I am starting to get depressed because of the pain and weight gain....I am only 44 years old, I am also on the Vivelle dot patch and have been since I was 30.  I want healthy bones, but on the other hand, the pain and all may not be worth it.  I am like you, one moment it is my legs, then my arms, then my hips or back....

I have just started Forteo in December. I have pain in my lower back, and my knees real bad. I also have this strange pain that hits me in all different places of my body. It sometimes stops me in my tracks.

Gosh am I ever glad to find this post site....  I'm having the same problem with the pains that stop me dead in my tracks and my doctor says that there is nothing wrong.  Makes me feel like I'm nuts.  I've been on Forteo for only six weeks and sure hope I don't have to go the whole two years like this!  I can't tell you where the pains are going to hit next but seem to be in the joints right now, sure hate it....sure glad I found you guys!
