Is it of benefit/safe to take miacalcin and evista to treat osteoporsis?
Hi jsccrc53, welcome and thanks for your question. Are you taking both medications, or considering both for the treatment of osteoporosis? There isn't much literature on combination treatments, and for this reason it's not *generally* recommended. Some Drs will add miacalcin to a treatment, if the patient has pain or a recent fracture. Miacalcin can be used for the pain of fractures, but would be used for a short period of time. If your Dr is suggesting taking both medications, I would ask if there is any research available that you can read that recommends this, if so you could then make your decision based on that. Your Dr may have information that I'm not aware of so check with him or her, on this type of approach.
If your t-scores haven't improved or are worse, you might ask to be screened for secondary causes of osteoporosis. Secondary causes are medical conditions that can worsen/cause osteoporosis but are treated differently than osteoporosis. Here's a partial list of them if you'd like to read it from the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
Good luck finding out about this, and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
