Q: has anyone experienced severe bone pain months after getting IV Reclast?

My Mom recieved IV Reclast in April and has recently developed debiliatating bone pain.  She has had tests and are negative to date. The only thing that has changed in her life in the past few months is Reclast.

Thanks!

Thanks for your question. I would direct your attention to a very similar question, as well as its answer. The short answer is that your mom should talk to her doctor about the pain, but that she is not alone in experiencing it. The FDA has warned that severe bone pain may result from taking bisphosphonates (the group to which Reclast belongs). Hope this helps.

I know what your Mom is going through. I have had severe bone pain that has altered my life dramatically. I didn't actually start for several weeks after Reclast and it was localized in my right side. No one connected it to the drug. I actually had unnecessary gall bladder surgery. After that the pain started all over and I was the one who put two and two together. I am miserable and only pray that it goes away after a year -- I have 4 more months to go. I also hope that there is no permanent damage. Tell your Mom she is not alone. I actually was not told that this could be a side effect. I was only told about possible short-lived rare effects such as flu-like symptoms which I never had. No one knows what it is like unless you go through it.

i had the reclast injection in Oct. 2009, within three weeks of the injections my legs began hurting on a daily basis.  It is a non-stop pain, burning, major weakness(hard press gas pedal), and limping everyday.  was told that i had enchondroma in my shins in August 2009, but was told by a doctor that the tumors are benign and would not cause me any problems, he said all my leg pain was coming from chrondromalacia patella in both my knees. long story short, went on bedrest for a month in Oct. 2009 which did help ease some pain in my knees, but shortly after the reclast injection on Oct. 22nd, 2009, my shins have been raging ever since. Just found out on January 21st after lab work that my white blood count is dangerously low, which i had blood work before Reclast injection in Oct. and the count was fine.. I feel abused and confused:(

I received my Reclast injection in May 2009, and within a month began experiencing severe bone pain.  I particularly notice it in my feet when I get out of bed in the morning, or after I've been resting/sitting for an hour or more.  I also have stiffness in my hands and my elbows feel like they are bruised.  I never had any of these symptoms before my Reclast treatment, and hope that they dissipate once my year is up.  Never again.
