Hi Nicole, welcome... I've never taken Boniva, so hopefully our members who have will jump into the conversation. One of the problems with side effects, is we don't know who will have them. Boniva is also simiar to Actonel and Fosamax, so I would think the side effects are much the same. Talk to your Dr. and see if she/he can explain how Boniva is different. Maybe your Dr. has patients that tolerate it better, but you won't know till you ask.
One important thing; is your Dr.referring to the injectable Boniva or the monthly pill? The injectable has less gastro intestinal side effects, than the oral, but still has some of the other side effects like joint/muscle pain, etc. Find out which one the Dr is talking about. Here's two links, one for Boniva oral and one for Boniva injectable given quarterly.
Good Luck...

I took a monthly pill of ACtonel and was ill for about 7 days. terrible aches and pain, stomach issues ...it was bad, but after the first month my doctor put me on a weekly dose and i dont have any issues. maybe think about switching doses.
