I AM concerned that I would have the same bad effects as Boniva has had on 2 of my friends. I have GERD with Barretts Disease so the infusion was thought to be better. I had breast cancer 1 1/2 yrs ago, with just radiation. Thank you

Hi Judy, welcome and thanks for your question. I'm sorry no one told you to drink a lot of water before the infusion and after. The reason this is advised is to prevent any kidney problems, and to make sure your kidneys are flushing well around the time of infusion. If you haven't had any problems with urination, then you should be ok, but I would talk to your Dr. to confirm this. Whenever you get a drug prescribed I would make sure to read the patient insert, which would have mentioned the importance of drinking plenty of water. Even though this was infused, they should have given you some literature to explain this and it would have been nice for the Dr. to warn you about this.
It's true that an infused drug is easier on those with GERD and Barretts since it by-passes your stomach.
I'm so sorry you are having the flu-like symptoms but this is a very common side effect of Reclast, that shouldn't last more than a week. If your symptoms last longer than that contact your Dr. about it.
Osteoporosis as a result of cancer is also very common, so I hope the infusion helps to build your bones, and that your cancer is gone.
Good luck...
