My first month supply of Forteo given to me by the Lilley representative has expiration date: 2/08.

I attended a training session on 5/2 with a Lilley rep. who instructed me how to give myself the injections.  When I gave myself the injection at home this morning, I realized the first month starter pack she gave me expired in February, 2008.  Today's date is Saturday, 5/3/08, 3 months past the expiration date!!!  The Lilley office is closed for the weekend, so now what do I do? Continue to administer drug on Sunday and Monday until I can reach someone?  The started pack was free, but not much good since it is out of date.  This creates a difficult situation now, as I cannot easily make a phone call from my work place on Monday, nor do I want to drive to the pharmacy or doctor's office again.

What a difficult and awkward situation. Obviously a pharmacy rep should not be giving out expired doses. Thie situation is of even more concern regarding a drug like synthetic parathyroid hormone, which needs to be kept refrigerated constantly. One can't help but wonder, if the pen is that old, was this requirement indeed met during all that time? Especially if it was in the care of someone who didn't even notice if it was expired? I hope your efforts to contact Eli Lilly have been successful this week and that they have replaced your pen with a non-expired one. If for some reason this has not happened, do make sure to discuss the situation with your doctor as soon as possible. Good luck with this.
