Q: My Rheum said on friday that denomusab is going to be approved soon.

Has anyone heard this?  I went to Amgen Web site but there was no statement about denomusab.  He said it was a technicality about how the drug will be administered.  It will be given by a MD in the office.  I'm on his short list to receive.  Please ask your MD's?

Hi Raven, thanks so much for the information.  I will definitely ask about this at my next osteo appointment.  I hadn't heard this, but I did find an article, released yesterday, about it and you can read about Prolia (final marketing name) here.  I did read that Glaxo Smith Kline has partnered with Amgen to distribute this in Europe, India, China etc and Amgen would handle the market in the U.S.  I still don't have an actual date of release but read the link above that has a preliminary date of release.  I hesitate giving out the date since I haven't been able to confirm it at the FDA website.  Since the name has changed from Denosumab to Prolia, you might find more info with the new name in a web search.

If you find out any more, please do let us know!!

Good luck and I hope this happens soon.  Let me know if you have any thoughts on the above article from "The Medical News" web site.

If I find any more on this I'll repost here, so check back for that.

Thanks again, this is good news, as long as the insurance companies cover it.  Some won't and some will it just depends on the type of insurance you have.Surprised

Thanks Pam,

I read the article on Prolia and it looks like it will be approved at the end of July.  Of course I wish that it would be sooner, but, I'll start taking Fosamax in about a week.  I'm hoping my insurance will pay for it.  I'll find out soon enough.  If I hear anything else I'll let you know.

Hi Raven thanks for the info.  It would be nice if it could be approved sooner-that's for sure.  If you are still interested in the serotonin-inhibitor drug for osteo check out this week's Question of the Week on that topic.  I'd like to hear your great thoughts on it.  Good luck with the Fosamax.  At least you won't have to take it too long, if you don't want to.  The last I heard my insurance isn't paying for Prolia, but we'll see, maybe they've changed their decision since I last checked on it.

Take Care and thanks again...Smile
