Don't let RA limit your routineLearn more now about a treatment that may help
Sunday, November 23, 2008 Denise Schnarre asks

Q: What about Ez-orb? I have friends who take it. I just stopped Fosamax due to side effects.

I took Evisa, now have tried Actonel and Fosamax.  I would love to find something that works, but does not leave me achy and feeling sluggish.  A friend suggested Ez-orb, but I don't know much about it, and would like some background before I talk with my doctor about it.

Hi Denise:  Interesting question...  I don't have any personal experience with Ezorb, but here's some info on it that should help you to formulate the questions you mentioned that you want to take to your Dr.

The company that makes EZorb claims that their form of calcium has a 92% absorbability rate.  This would be great, but I don't know if the claim is really substantiated.  They also claim that it helps in the development of joint collagen and synovial fluids, also good if proven.

Below are some links to info on this that should help you to decide whether you want to take it or not.

I found the dosing to be a bit complicated where you start at 8-12 capsules or 4-6 tps powder a day depending on your weight and medical disorder.  After 3 months of this then you are reduced to 4 caps or 2 tps powder.

They also claim that this type of calcium doesn't cause stones, again great, but is that really true, hopefull, you'll be able to find these answers.

In the end, the best thing you can do is weight the pros and cons and see if this is something that will help your bone density.  I suppose it couldn't hurt, but if I were considering it, I would want to know what is so different about calcium aspartate anhydrous and does it really produces all these claims--I hope so at this price.

It is really expensive compared to the other calciums like carbonate, citrate, gluconate etc. so I would check out all the claims before you commit to paying this kind of money.  Your pharmacist should be able to tell you if this type of calcium (aspartate anhydrous) is any different than the rest.

The above link is a long thread about EZorb and has a lot of discussion on it, so maybe you could get some first hand knowledge from those taking it.

Good Luck and let us know what you pharmacist and Dr say's about this, I'm really curious.  Don't forget to get 1,000 IU's of D3 and exercise as well.  I'm not completely sure that exercise and supplements alone will reverse your t-scores, but if they aren't real low, and say in the osteopenia range it *may* be possible to increase them with this-but of course there's no gaurantee for anything in life.

Denise,

I go to a Doctor who specializes in Nutritional Medicine. I had been put on Fosamax by another Dr. and he took me off of it because of the bad side effects that drugs in that group could cause. Bone Fracture is still high on these drugs.

I am taking a natural Nutritional Product called Strontium Support II from AOR which is a trace mineral that supports bone structure & my bone density has been increasing on it. The only thing is that it should be taken on an empty stomach at least 2 hrs. away from any calcium product. Calcium should still be taken to support it.

The dosage of strontium needed is 682mg which in the brand I take is 2 pills.  I pay $31.00 cdn. for a bottle of 60 (1 month's supply) & would highly recommend it as their are no side effects except stronger bones. You can find more info at: http://www.aor.ca/html/products.php?id=97

Some Health Food Stores will point you to products that contain very small amounts of Strontium mixed with other ingredients.  I'm sure there are probably other good brands of Stontium, but make sure you get the proper dosage.

Osteoporosis was something that greatly concerned me since I was only 43 when diagnosed & told I had bones of an 80 year old. I am totaly satisfied with the product Strontium and highly recommend it.

Hope this info helps.

Hi Jean:  I'm thrilled that SC (Strontium Citrate) is working for you!!  If you haven't read the latest study done on the great results with Strontium Ranelate here's the article on it.

There's still the debate over whether SC and SR are the same chemical compound, but regardless, this study shows good results in the UK for Protelos (Strontium Ranelate).  As I'm sure you know, the FDA is in the process of trying to approve Strontium Malonate, and was wondering if you would consider that, if it's approved, over the OTC version of SC?

First Head to Head Study of Protelos (Strontium Ranelate) and Bisphosphonates:

Good luck with your treatment.  Have you found any dxa facilities that will apply the "strontium adjustments" that need to be made to get an accurate dxa score, since SC makes bones look more dense than they are, which is similar to calcium content in bones?

Hi,

One year ago I found out that I had osteoporosis. I am 45 years old. I was told by my doctor to take fosamax. After reading about it i decided not to, and to try Ez-orb.

I also did the bio=identical hormone shots once a month. I am happy to report that 10 months later my bone scans have improved quite a bit already!! Hope this helps you.

so exactly what are bio- identical hormone shots for? Have you had a hystrerectomy?  how have your frineds that take ezorb done, improvment with them also?  I am waiting for my first bottle of ezorb to come and plan on taking three teaspoons a day hoping to improve my bone scan the next time I have one.  I, like everyone else don't want to waste money, let alone the time on products that don't work. I am leary of products until I can get information from people that have tired them.  After reading all about the pharmaceutical garbage they try to give out I refuse to take them..  please let me know how your doing with the ezorb.... thanks, karen
