Hi Norma, welcome and thanks for your question.  I totally understand your reluctance with regard to Forteo, but you have to remember, that not all people have the side effects listed.  When the drug companies list these they have to include all of the effects seen within a group down to those experienced by less than 2% of the group.  When you read all these it sounds like your gauranteed to get at least one of them but that isn't necessarily the case, especially when you notice that the placebo groups (those not taking the med) had similar side effects.  I took Forteo for 2 years and the only side effects I had were greatly improved t-scores and no new fractures after having many before taking it.  Of course you'll talk to many who've had side effects from Forteo and the negative reviews get much more coverage than the positive ever will.   There are other options for medications but you'll find they all list side effects that you won't like or will worry about.   Boniva injection is one option (quarterly injection) Reclast infusion is another (once a year) Evista (not normally recommended in those with fragility fractures) Miacalcin nasal spray (not normally recommended with fractures) Fosamax (continue with that or one of the other oral bisphosphonates--Actonel, Boniva oral)   So you'll have to discuss the options with your Dr. to come up with something that you feel is right for you.  Since you are the only one who can make this decision, be sure to do your homework on all of them.   Here's a link on Forteo that you can read from the Cleveland Clinic which explains how this drug works and who should or shouldn't take it.  You'll need to read about the others as well to see if you prefer one over the other.   Good luck deciding and remember that not all the side effects are gauranteed to happen to anyone, but they will occur in some individuals.   If you have another question feel free to post again.
