Hi Ruthann, welcome to our community and thanks for sharing your concerns on these osteoporosis meds.   According to Evista manufacturer (Eli Lily) elevated liver enzymes have been reported in very rare cases during their clinical studies on the drug in less than 2% of those studied.   According to Boniva's manufaturer (Roche) Boniva does not raise liver enzymes because the liver doesn't metabolize the drug.   Double check this info with your Dr. to find out for sure and go to both of the below websites to confirm this information.   I don't know if one or the other drug works better with low hip density, but you can also look up their clinical trial and look for the section on clinical trials that list all of the side effects and benefits.   Good luck with this and do as much reading as you can and ask your Dr. to explain this by having him check his PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) for this info under side effects.   Evista *may* reduce the incidence of invasive breast cancer in some people who are at high-risk for it, but it does not gaurantee that it will prevent it from reoccuring in all who take it.   I hope this helps, but please discuss this with your health care provider since he or she is the only one who has access to your personal medical history which is very important in making these types of decisions.  Also ask your Dr if one or the other drug works better for osteoporosis of the hip, since Evista isn't considered a first line of defense for reducing fractures as Boniva is.   Roche web site (for Boniva): http://www.boniva.com/   Eli Lily web site (for Evista): http://www.evista.com/pat/index.jsp   Good luck and if you have another question just re-post.
