Reclast iv.
I am allergic to fosamax. The dr. wants to give me reclast iv. I read not to take it if you are allergic to fosamax. I am confused. Thank you, Alice
Hi Alice, welcome to the site. This should be checked with your Pharmacist or Dr. Reclasts active ingredient is zolendronic acid, plus sodium citrate, water, and mannitol. Fosamax's active ingredient is alendronate sodium, plus some inactive ingredients.
Confrim this with your Dr. or Pharmacist, but each drug has a different active ingredient so I don't know if you would be allergic to both, but you can find out by talking to either of them.
Both of these drugs are from a class of drugs called bisphosphonates, but the active ingredients aren't the same. The only other drug that has Reclasts active ingredient is Zometa, that I know of.
Where did you read that if you have an allergy to Fosamax you shouldn't take Reclast? Just curious, and would like to read it too.
Good luck talking to the Pharmacist or Dr. on this question.

Hi Alice: I've seen what you read, so don't proceed with Reclast without talking to your Pharmacist or Dr., maybe even the drug co. You could also call Novartis, or get a second opinion from another Dr.
Good luck finding something to take, and you may want to take the article with you, that mentions Fosamax allergies and precautions with Reclast to your Dr, so he or she can read it.

Hi, I asked the question on my search on home page,if I should take reclast being allergic to fosamax. Thank you, Alice
