Hi mizjan, welcome and thanks for your question.  Congrats on your wonderful improvements on Forteo.  I took it as well and had fantastic results as did you.

It's hard to say which drug is better (Boniva or Fosamax) but Boniva does have a much shorter half-life, so if you are one to worry about how long it stays in your body, Boniva leaves the body much faster than Fosamax.  Fosamax's half-life is 10+ years and Boniva's injection is 4.6 to 15.5 hours for the 2 mg dose, and the 4 mg dose is 5 to 25.5 hours.

The half life (amount of time for half of the drug to leave your body) on the oral monthly dose of Boniva is 37 to 157 hours for the once a month (150 mg dose).  Notice that the injectable dose (given quarterly through the year) leaves the body sooner than the oral dose.

Talk to your Dr. and discuss any possible side effects and pick which ever one you think is best.  The injectable Boniva doesn't have as many gi related side effects since it doesn't travel through your intestines, like the oral doses do.  Both oral Boniva and Fosamax have the warning for joint/bone pain, and gastro intestinal (gi) related problems, but of course not all people have these problems.  You can look up both drugs here at OsteoporosisConnection.com on the home page and read about the side effects, and the differences between their benefits.

On the home page look on the left of the screen for the heading "Top Osteo Drugs" then to read about Boniva IV click the "more" button (at the bottom of the list) to take you to the second page on these meda.  Fosamax is listed on the first page on the home page.

Good luck and if you have any other questions just post again.  Congratulations again this is wonderful news!!!!!  You went from severe/established osteoporosis to osteopenia--Good Job.
