Hi Cathy. welcome and thanks for the question...whether you choose calcium citrate or carbonate, the main thing to rmember is to take it. It is so easy to forget to pop the pills while leading a busy life. I did find an easy to understand article about the citrate form vs. carbonate.

I've been taking strontium for 3 years and have had no side effects at all.  I feel it is a very safe alternative to the now available osteo drugs which we know cause side effects in many people. I found another article that discusses strontium and also addresses the safety question you ask.

Phyllis,

Which form/brand of Strontium have you taken for 3 years. I feel that Strontium may be the right thing for me . I live in the USA and am just starting to research my options for obtaining strontium. RX vs OTC formuations. I have a son who lives in Canada and intend to investigate what is available there also. Can you (or anyone) help with advice?

Thanks!

HI Bones49, I take NSI strontium citrate which i order online.  There are other brands, but this is the one i've been using the whole time. It has a good price and for me has proven to be effective.  The active ingredient in the prescription form, protelos, is strontium citrate the same thing thing we can get OTC here.  Unless you go to Canada regularly and have a dr. there who can write the script for you it may be difficult to keep a steady supply.  Strontium malonate is  in trials at the FDA now so a script form may be avalaibe here in the future. When/if you  order strontium you want to make sure that its just strontium citrate and not a combination of other supplements all in one.  Have a good weekend..take care..phylllis
